Red Flags: Decoding PCOS & Endometriosis

The Silent Epidemic

It takes an average of 7-10 years to get diagnosed with Endometriosis. That is a decade of medical gaslighting. In 2026, we empower you to become the expert on your own body so you can demand the right tests.

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

The Metabolic Issue PCOS is not really about cysts; it's a metabolic and hormonal disorder.

  • The Signs:
    • Irregular or missing periods (cycles > 35 days).
    • Adult Acne (especially on the jawline).
    • Hirsutism (dark hair on chin/chest).
    • Weight gain around the middle.
  • The Driver: Insulin Resistance. High insulin causes the ovaries to overproduce Testosterone.
  • The Fix: It's lifestyle first. Managing blood sugar (via continuous glucose monitors, low-carb diets, strength training) often reverses symptoms better than the pill. Myo-Inositol supplements are the gold standard treatment.

Endometriosis

The Inflammatory Issue Tissue similar to the uterine lining grows elsewhere (bladder, bowel, pelvic walls). It bleeds every month, but the blood has nowhere to go, causing scar tissue (adhesions).

  • The Signs:
    • "Killer Cramps" that stop "only" when bleeding stops.
    • Pain with bowel movements during your period (#1 sign).
    • Pain during deep intercourse.
    • Sciatic nerve pain.
  • The Driver: Immune dysfunction and estrogen dominance.
  • The Fix: Surgery (Excision, not ablation) is the only cure. The pill only masks symptoms. Managing inflammation (anti-inflammatory diet, pelvic floor therapy) manages pain.

The "Normal" Checklist

If you mark "Yes" to any of these, see a specialist, not a general GP.

  1. [ ] Do you miss school/work due to pain?
  2. [ ] Do periods last longer than 7 days?
  3. [ ] Do you soak a pad/tampon every hour?
  4. [ ] Do you need to double up (pad + tampon)?

Advocacy Tip: When a doctor dismisses you, say: "Please document in my chart that you are refusing to order an ultrasound for my severe pelvic pain." This usually changes the conversation.
